MANCHESTER PARK PTO
The Manchester Park PTO will call for nominations in the spring for the upcoming school year! We need YOUR help in serving our school in the capacities of board officers and/or chairpersons. PTO officers work supportively and collaboratively with the Principal to support the mission and vision of Manchester Park.
Please read the short descriptions of each position and/or committee below. You may nominate yourself or someone you know. All nominees will be personally contacted to verify their willingness to serve. We greatly appreciate your active participation in our parent-teacher organization. PTO Executive Board Positions:
President- Presides over all meetings, attends Site Council meetings, oversees the work of specific committees, works closely with Mr. Bohon, Principal to support the school and needs of the staff and students.
Vice President- Acts as an aide to the President, performs the duties of the President when the President is absent, oversees the work of specific committees, and coordinates nominations.
Secretary- Takes the minutes at all meetings, keeps a roster of the membership and attendance at PTO meetings, disperses the minutes to the PTO Board, prepares a summary of the monthly newsletter and posting on the web page, maintains current and past records of the organization, verifies votes placed through absentee ballots and oversees the work of specific committees.
Treasurer- Keeps full and accurate account of funds, receipts and expenditures, provides financial statements at every meeting, prepare tax statements, presents the proposed budget to the PTO board, makes disbursements of funds to pay bills, maintains the PTO checking account, and oversees the work of specific committees.
Fundraising- Gathers and researches potential fundraisers, assists treasurer and/or fundraising chair in accounting for all fundraising revenues, oversees the work of specific committees.
PTO Committee Chairpersons:
Book Bunch- Works with staff to coordinate parent volunteer led reading groups of 3rd, 4th & 5th graders that meet at lunch once a month for three months (January-March) to discuss books
Book Fair- Works with Librarian to secure volunteers and organize fall and spring
Book Fairs Box Tops- Coordinates volunteers to collect, trim, sort and/or count box tops labels; maintains school approved collections sites, sends redeemable items and manages the acquisition of merchandise as determined by the program
Carnival (Spring)- works with volunteers to coordinate special event for school, generally held in the spring
Community Service Club- work with the school in coordinating & organizing student/family involvement in the President’s School of Service challenge; provide organized service opportunities for students/families
Daddy/Daughter Event- coordinates event for dads and their daughters
Fit & Fun Day- Works with the PE teachers to secure volunteers and needed support for the annual Fit & Fun event held in the spring
Free Little Library- overseas and maintains the free little library box on campus
Fun Run (Fall Fundraiser)- Coordinates with Fundraising Officer to organize and secure volunteers and donations for the annual fall fundraiser
Fundraising Chair Assistant- Coordinates with Fundraising Officer to organize and secure fundraising opportunities throughout the year such as community family nights (ie: Papa Murphy’s, Old Shawnee, Johnny’s); assists the Fundraising Chair with other activities as needed
Grandparents/Special Guest Day- Works with the school to provide volunteers and support for the annual Grandparents/Special Guest Day Picnic in September
Landscaping- Ensures the beauty of the grounds of MPE by coordinating community work days, planting & up keeping flowers/ plants in the front entry pots; provide recommendations for additional landscape needs
Lost and Found- Coordinate volunteers to keep lost and found area organized and tidy; routinely goes through items and return items with names to classrooms; bundles and transports unclaimed items to charities twice per year (January and June)
Mother/Son Event- works to coordinate activity for mothers with their sons
Movie Night- organize family movie night events held at MPE
New Parent Breakfast- Works with the Principal & PTO to coordinate and organize continental-style breakfast for new MPE families on the first day of school
Room Coordinator Chair- Contacts, organizes and trains all MP room coordinators. Shares Room Coordinator guidelines and provides support as needed in securing coordinators for each classroom, carnival volunteers, and activities for Teacher Appreciation Week
Spirit Wear- present recommendations for spirit wear designs to the Executive Board for approval, order spirit wear and coordinate sales, collect money and provide customer service related to spirit wear
Square 1 Art Fundraiser- works with art teacher to promote program and to collect and fulfill orders
Summer Movie Tickets- Works with summer movie ticket vendor to promote program; collect and fulfill orders
Teacher/Staff Appreciation- Works with teacher rep and Principal in determining appropriate times and ways to show student and parental appreciation of the MPE staff; Coordinates meals at parent teacher conferences and Staff Appreciation week; maintain/ update Teacher/Staff “Favorite Things” spreadsheet
Teacher Giving Tree- Obtains wish list from teachers in November, works with committee to create ornaments with teachers’ wishes, puts tree up and down in front lobby
Yearbook- Works with teacher rep, Principal and yearbook vendor; taking and gathering yearbook pictures, preparing page layouts; coordination volunteers to assist with all aspects of yearbook; promoting sales and assisting with yearbook distribution
5th Grade Celebration Committee- Coordinate with the 5th grade teachers to organize the end of year celebration/activities
